A few cones were killed in the name of safety training and fun
Fourteen transit operators (bus drivers) and two journeyman mechanics competed for top honors during the 2019 Bus Roadeo held at the Del Webb Operations Facility on Sunday, Sept. 22nd. When you think of a bus "roadeo," think more about an obstacle course and less about cowboy hats. Backed by dozens of volunteers, family, and friends, the competitors maneuvered their 40-foot buses through 11 challenging obstacles, and showed their pre-trip skills on a gray, rainy morning. Obstacles included the serpentine turn, driving the dual-wheels between two lines of tennis balls, and backing up the bus into a lane not much wider than the bus lined with cones.
Regardless of the drizzle, the mood was light, the food was good, and everyone enjoyed some fun as they showed their competitive spirit. When it was all said and done, the top three finishers received their certificates and award plaques from General Manager Allan Pollock and Chief Operating Officer David Trimble. The first place winner will go on to represent Cherriots at the 2020 International Bus Roadeo in San Antonio, Texas, in May. Congratulations, and a job well done to all the competitors and participants!
