$2.5 million will be used to purchase new buses

The awards for the Federal Transit Administration's (FTA) FY2017 Bus and Bus Facilities Grants have been announced. Cherriots was one of only two agencies in Oregon to receive an award this year. In total, there were 453 eligble applications and only 130 awards, totaling $264.4 million. Cherriots was awarded nearly $2.5 million and we will use these funds to purchase new buses that run on compressed natural gas to replace aging buses in our fleet. That's a win for the environment and for public transportation in Salem-Keizer. For more information on the grant, here's a press release from our Oregon Senators and Congressmen, as well as a Statesman Journal article. You'll be seeing these new buses sporting their new Cherriots blue soon!
