Team Cherriots is getting stronger every day
Tricia McCain sent a custom-made pop-up card featuring a bus and the state capitol to the Cherriots Marketing Department, forever raising the bar for job interview thank you notes.
Cherriots recognized Tricia’s talent and hired her in February as a Marketing Assistant. Tricia’s training as an illustrator and graphic designer, as well as her administrative skills, will help Cherriots promote its services.
In her second week on the job at Cherriots, Tricia was handed an urgent assignment. The Transportation Development Department asked her to design a newspaper advertisement for a public outreach event. She had one day to complete the job to make Canyon Weekly’s deadline.
“They said ‘Yup, you’ve hit the ground running,’” Tricia said. “That was my initiation to problem-solving real fast and producing something at Cherriots.”
Tricia said her first pop-up cards were for family members, including a Happy New Year card showing her cats, Slinky and Munchkin. Creating pop-up cards combines Tricia’s knack for thinking visually and drawing on a computer.
A native of Arizona, Tricia was an in-house graphic designer for Naturally Vitamins, also known as Marlyn Nutraceuticals, in Phoenix for nine years. She worked as an in-house graphic designer for the Arizona Community Foundation for two years.
Tricia, who earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree at the University of Oregon in 2000, returned to Oregon in 2015.
“I love the rain. I love the green,” Tricia said. She chose to settle in Stayton, where a family member lives.
Tricia has done volunteer work in her small community. Last October, she organized Stayton’s first “Ghost Tour and Chocolate Walk,” a fundraiser for downtown preservation and revitalization.
At Cherriots, Tricia has taken responsibility for The Pulse, the transit agency’s internal newsletter. Lately, she’s been busy proofreading materials associated with changes in bus service.
Tricia said she feels fortunate to join Cherriots at this particular time. The future looks promising for Cherriots and its riders.
By fall 2019, Cherriots expects to add Saturday bus service and make other long-awaited service improvements. The improvements--funded by a statewide transportation package passed by the Legislature--will restore many services lost to budget cuts in 2009.
