Cherriots staff are always increasing their skills to better serve riders
Lisa Carignan, an outreach specialist for the District who specializes in travel training, recently received the Certified Travel Training Instructor credential through a six-month program offered by the Easterseals Project Action Consulting and the Center for Urban Transportation Research at the University of South Florida. The program provides new and veteran travel trainers the opportunity to earn this professional certification, which reflects mastery of travel training skills, including knowledge of human development and behavior, an understanding of transportation systems and services, and the ability to teach the concepts of interaction with both the natural and build environment along paths of travel. Travel trainers teach people with disabilities, seniors, and other interested travelers. The professional certification demonstrates that travel instructors have the skills to confidently and successfully assist individuals who want to learn how to ride buses, subways, rail, and commuter ferries in urban, suburban, and rural settings.
